At first glance, you would be shocked as you strolled past aisle after aisle of the library to see this hunk of all that is gorgeous sitting quietly at a table...oh my god...dilligently reading. In fact, you might have a double-take. And then you'd be embarassed, now wouldn't you? Heh. But the thing is, the man wouldn't have even noticed you, so deep was he in the current book laid open before him, his large hands flipping the pages incessently. Setting the current book down on a large stack to his left, he rubbed his eyes wearily. He'd been here reading since it had opened this morning and it was four in the afternoon now. He'd been doing this every day for the past three weeks. He'd quit his job as a construction worker a month ago when he'd caught the first warnings while scanning the news on the internet. And as soon as he was sure, he'd headed to this place. The ice age was coming, and Holt would make it no matter the cost.
Now, he used to not ever come here. In fact, when he'd first come in he'd had to ask the librarian how the place worked. She'd led him to the survival guide area, and he'd quickly read all of the ones that were from reputable authors. He'd even picked up a few fiction from Jack London. His short stories were amazing, and he especially liked To Build A Fire. But besides that, Call of the Wild and Wolf Fang were good. From there he'd had the librarian take him to a section about dogs. There, he found a very large book, the size of an encyclopedia, pushed to the very back of the shelf laying on its side. Blowing the dust from it, he opened it to find that it was a guide to sled dogs. Anything from building a sled and threading harnesses to training and running the dogs. It even listed the traits that were best for each spot. A grin spreading across his face, he had quickly delved into it. It was at this moment that we are at, a third of the way through it.
He'd been practicing at home everything he'd known. He'd already moved into a cabin, a place that didn't rely on electricity and plumbing, and had perfected fire making, knot tieing, and everything else of use. He was preparing for the future, and he would do it right. Tomorrow he'd go scope out the pound.

A soft tinkle from the bell above her hea,d a thud from the door behind her, and then all was silent. Ana sighed softly. That old proverb, silence is golden, was so true. Especially in libraries. It was just so sweet and peaceful in here. Ana just loved it. She came every day, or as often as she could. It didn't matter what she read, just that she could find come peace and quiet. Even her solitary cabin was fairly loud, what with all the animals that hung around. Especially the stray dogs. There seemed to be an overabundance of them lately.
Ana didn't really mind all the dogs, she supposed they were just more able to survive the heat that their human counterparts. Really, she loved dogs, and she was glad that they were finding ways to survive even without owners. It was just that it seemed that whenver she was trying to do something quiet, they were always making noise. And what a racket they could whip up! Chasing birds, rabbits and god knows what else.
Her soft footsteps made almost no noise on the library's carpet as she walked down the isles. Today she was in the mood to learn more about the creatures that stalked her house. She knew exactly where the dog books were, she'd been coming here since she was little, and so she made a bee-line from them. Running her finger along the bindings, she read all the titles, and chose the last one on the shelf. It was about strays, specifically. A glance at the summary told her that it held statistics about the world's populations of stray dogs. Not exactly what she'd been looking for, but then again, what had she been looking for exactly?
Tucking the book in the crook of her arm, she retraced her steps and headed for the tables at the very back of the library, the ones almost no one used. Everyone but her always seemed so eager to get their book and leave. She preferred to sit here and read it, in the quiet. She was just about to pull out the chair nearest her when she spotted someone at the very back, sitting and reading. She couldn't quite see who he was, so she startd moving towards him. It wasn't often someone came in here. When she came to his table she read the title, and saw that he was reading about dogs as well. She pulled out the chair across from him and sat down.
"Sled dogs, huh? Hope you don't mind me joining you."
She smiled softly at him before opening up her own book.
